First of all, not all caliber-changing rifles are created equal. The Barrett MRAD is great because switching caliber is actually easy. Just loosen two Torx screws, remove and swap barrels, change out the bolt, and re-tighten the screws. No headspace checks or gauges are necessary.

OKAY! Now the .338 Norma Magnum cartridge!

I had numerous emails about this since "Stray Cats Hunt in Darkness," Where Darya first used the Barrett to take out "The Boss." In both "Stay Cats Hunt in Darkness," and now in "Desert Rose," I never indicated that the projectile fired from the Barrett was a .416. It was a .338 projectile dispensed from a .416 Rigby casing.

SPECIFICATIONS OF THE .338 Norma Magnum Round: 

Parent case = .416 Rigby
Case Type = Rimless, Bottleneck
Bullet Diameter = 8.60 mm or 0.339 in.
Neck Diameter = 9.40 mm or 0.370 in.
Shoulder diameter = 14.50 mm or 0.571 in.
Base diameter = 14.87 mm or 0.585 in
Rim diameter = 14.93 mm or 0.588 in.
Rim thickness = 1.52 mm or 0.060 in.
Case length = 63.30 mm or 2.492 in.
Overall length = 93.50 mm or 3.681 in.
Case capacity = 6.95 cm3 or 107.3 gr H2O.
Rifling twist = 235 mm or 1 in 9.25 in.
Primer type = Large rifle magnum.
Maximum pressure = 440.00 MPa or 63,817 psi.

So, this goes to show that the .338 projectile is married to the .416 Rigby casing.
