As one of the Readers referred to “Mai” as an “imamba,” the isiZulu word for the Mamba snake, I’ll post the following:
Mambas are fast moving venomous snakes of the genus: Dendroaspis. They grow to up to 14 feet (4.26 Metre) in length, although 8.2 feet (2,4 Metre) is more the average. They are also among the fastest snakes in the world, slithering at speeds of up to 12.5 miles per hour (20.11 Km/h).
Mamba venoms consist mostly of neurotoxins. Besides the neurotoxins, they also carry cardiotoxins and fasciculins.
A bite can be fatal to humans without access to proper first aid and subsequent anti-venom treatment, as it shuts down the lungs and heart.
You will find two Mambas, the Black Mamba and the Green Mamba. The Black Mamba is in fact grey in colour. It derives its name from the black colour of the inside of its mouth.
I hope this help you.
